The Monkey-Bag Daddy

Welcome to The Monkey-Bag Daddy blog! Be sure to check our posts, where we will be touching on a few topics, but mainly about fatherhood, it’s quirky energy-draining side as well as it’s struggles in our daily lives as dads. We will share cool places to take your kids, mainly in NYC, but as other contributors join us, we will make sure to include other cities as well.

Now, you may be wondering what’s the monkey-bag daddy? Well, that is me, I’m the monkey-bag daddy, from the day I walked out of that department toy store with one of Skip-Hop’s Monkey bags. I have to confess, I was rather excited, maybe even more than my son, who at the time was around 18 months. He had just discovered running away from mom and dad while we screamed out his name was rather fun, and so the unanimous decision was made to get him a tether back-pack. In spite of swearing to ourselves we wouldn’t be that mom or that dad who had their child on a leash, we came to terms with our reality, New York is too crowded to have a loose toddler and the nightmare of loosing a child is the kind of drama you only stand to hear of (almost) in a late-night movie drama.

On that day, before coming out of the department store, in the shopping cart range right before exiting, I ripped-off the tags and managed to put the Monkey-Bag on my wriggling son, attached the leash and off he darted, receiving the first yank as he exited the doors. Just as he pulled away, the wave of judgmental onlookers  scorned me with their eyes, and so it continued for a few other outings. However, on one of our outings, a lady who was looking onto us gave us the much needed empathetic and reassuring comment, that she was one of those scornful people until she herself lost a child while on the street and found her a few  blocks away. It gave me the chills then, and it gives me the chills now to even think of it.

That was just the beginning of what now has become the big idea for this blog, and I hope you enjoy reading this blog as much as I will enjoying writing it for you.
